National Day 2007 Quiz

Singapore July 29th, 2007

In the spirit of celebrations and er… national patroitism fun, Here’s the inaugural National Day 2007 Quiz by Simply Jean:

At a gathering, a few people are selected at and put in a room. A check in the room showed that there are:

  • 3 Chinese
  • 1 Caucasian
  • 1 Indian
  • 2 Malays

How many people are there in the room?

Please email me your answer to the email address in the ‘About’ page. You may post comments here to discuss. The prize will be given to the correct answer. In the event that there are more than 1 correct answer, the winner will be drawn randomly; and if there is no correct answer, the prize will be given to the most innovative answer. :)

So… what is the prize? It’s:

  • a $40 Hard Rock Cafe voucher (i.e. no minimum spending required), and
  • 2 Starbucks Coffee vouchers for that nice after-dinner drink

Prizes are sponsored by Simply Jean - The Blog, and are valid until next year (please check expiry date though). Closing date for this quiz is 4th August 2007 and the winner will be notified via email. Vouchers will be sent out the following week so that it’d hopefully reach you before National Day so that you can have a nice National Day dinner. ;)

Keep your entries coming in!

Ping.sg 2nd meetup (for me)

Blogosphere July 29th, 2007

After a busy morning… I rushed down to Miss Clarity Cafe @ Purvis Street for my 2nd meetup with fellow Pingsters. Having alighted at the other end of Purvis Street, I was walking down the road like a blur sotong, before I finally realise that it was across the road from where I was.

When I was at the entrance, I couldn’t quite make out who the pingsters were, and had to ask one of the service staff if there was anyone who made a reservation for 20 pax. She then pointed me to this huge group of people and I walked to… and thankfully found a familiar face.

Then someone asked me who I was and I said…. Jean, and everyone returned a blank look on their face.

“Simply Jean”, I said… and everyone let out a chorus of “oh……..”

Hehe… oops. So they do know about this blog. Oops. Hope it’s not “notorious” or “infamous”.

Anyway, I didn’t know the most of them.. and all I could do was to walk to the end of the table… where the free seats were. The “Chairperson” seat, as usual, was empty, and I didn’t think it was appropriate since I didn’t know almost all of them. I was seated next to Daphnemaia, who is someone who puts you at rest instantly. It was really nice talking to her because I… don’t feel threatened. Haha… it might seem quite silly, but because I am a relatively quiet and reserved person… and anyone who probes too much into my life will be marked as a “terrorist”. :P It takes a long while to get to know me, but I tend to open up later. :)

Soon after, Uzyn joined us, followed by Yuhui, Ridzuan and Jzin, and lunch came soon after. :P I ordered fish and chips cos’ Daphnemaia mentioned that the Chicken Gordon Bleu was a little too dry. It turned out that fish and chips was quite nice… but the fries could be crispier. And oh, tomato sauce comes in packets… whereas the chilli sauces came in convenient bottles. Oh well, guess chilli is more popular in Singapore. :P

I also met Surfslayer, Snowbiscuits, uglyfatchick (who is really adorable and not ugly at all!) but didn’t have much chance to talk to them. After a while, Miccheng was moving around and I thought it’d be nice to mix around too. I spoke to Sheylara (who was at the other end of the table - the early arrivals) and learnt that she’s an actress as well as a writer! Wow! I hope she 创出一片天空 for herself one day. :) I was also explaining the concept of clinician scientists as a physician and a research scientist combined in one. The buzz phrase is “from bench to bed side”, but it’s usually tougher than it sounds. :(

I also met Nannywen who is doing her intern at nuffnang as well as Ethan, who is going to join NTU this coming semester @ NBS (whoopie!). I also met arzhou and DK, though I didn’t get to speak to DK (at all, I think), and finally before leaving, I spoke briefly to tstar. Hehe… so I guess everyone probably knows me by face now… but I don’t remember meeting Claudia… or wait… did I? Yes, I did! But I think she left early… blur me.

Veron was also not present… and erm… who is NTT? Hmm… or is NTT rinaz?

It was a good gathering and I really got to know a lot more people, not to mention adding more people onto my msn. Haha… snowbiscuit would like to learn Korean while I would like to learn Japanese… so, maybe we’ll just teach other other. I hope to keep in touch with everyone and look forward to another outing soon. :) It’s a pity I didn’t manage to make it to post-gathering coffee session, but I hope everyone had fun.

And oh, it’s nice meeting everyone! Keep in touch, ya? :)

PS: And oh, I think someone took some picture of Uzyn with his tongue sticking out or something… too bad I didn’t have the photos..

Meeting The Digital Movement

Blogosphere July 29th, 2007

*ring ring* …

Me: Hello?

Wayne: Where are you?

Me: Oh.. on the way.. there’s a slight jam…

Wayne: Oh.. okie.. see you then

Then I realised that Wayne thought I just woke up from bed. =S Hehe… do I sound that sleepy in the morning? Nonetheless, it was interesting to meet Wayne and Ming and Ali (although briefly). Ming and I were talking about WiMax and roaming Wifi and about bringing technology to people. Wayne also came up with this idea of Lunch 2.0… hmm…. “2.0″ a little overused hor? :P But it was a great idea though… but a lot of planning would be needed. :)

And oh… I just got an email.. and I am introduced as the …. tech girl? Hmm…
