Chasing after for payments

One thing I hate about being a freelancer is that my clients keep postponing their payments and the bigger companies keep asking for extension of credit. Some ask for 30 days credit but take 60 days to clear. Worse, I am still chasing a bad debt since 2 years ago. Goodness!
Is there any effective way of getting payments after a job is completed?

Haha have an option to shut down the “live” website or whatever is it that you’re doing for them unless they pay… The contract comes in handy…
Employ professional help.
Hang pig head.
Pour black paint.
Lock door.
Write “O$P$” inside lift.
@Wayne: Oh.. that’s only if I am hosting for them as well… unfortunately, I am not, but those for whom that I host are quite punctual with their payments.
@DK: Oh… difficult lah.. it’s against the law. But I am not sure if putting javascript:alert(’O$P$’); in their “body onload” is…
